What is S.O.S About?
We bring together
to build each other up.
S.O.S is a Houston-based network for transwomen of color that provides a safe haven for us to acknowledge, evaluate and control the narrative of how we are viewed. S.O.S. was created to connect transwomen of color to the proper resources and assist in navigating the world as we maintain the life of our true selves.
SOSU was the culmination of the void of support I was missing in my life since walking into the realization of my womanhood and what that meant in the brilliance of my Blackness. It has meant access to a unique and beautiful sisterhood where we can laugh, worry, and cry together. It is a space where you can let down your hair and be beautifully vulnerable. It has been a place to share fears and wisdom. SOSU is survival that pushes us to radically thrive in a world that tries to convince us differently. SOSU has impressed on the hearts of each of us our right to exist. We are inherently and divinely worthy. Thank you SOSU for being the God-spark in the lives of all you touch.
I’m blessed to know Atlantis Narcisse. She’s always had this ethereal energy I remember Our paths crossed years ago but didn’t become full circle until she invited me to a Saving Our Sisters meeting. It was new grounds for me but in the end I found everything i wanted and needed in a mother and sisterhood. Through knowledge, support and love from our founder and ally’s , life has a new meaning for me and I am committed to the purpose of saving our Sisters no matter where we are.
THE VIGOR THAT EMPOWERS US
We are a community-first program led by Black Trans women that acknowledges the emotional, physiological, and socioeconomic wellbeing of our fellow Trans women of color. We believe in breaking barriers and stigma while standing in solidarity and holistically empowering all Transgender women of color.
To empower and mobilize transgender women of color through self and community empowerment, while better-educating society on anti-norms, stigma, gender biases, and trauma.
