We have proudly served over 1,000+ transgender individuals in Texas annually.
For the past decade, S.O.S.U. has delivered direct financial assistance, social support, HIV prevention education, and referrals to affirming providers.

S.O.S.U. is boldly challenging and fighting stigma in the South towards transgender people. We are dedicated to providing life-saving and essential resources to Black transgender women while also providing a space for affirming connections/sisterhood and programs tailored to uplift self-esteem.
To ensure the safety of our staff and participants in the midst of growing hostility towards trans people in our region, the organization no longer publicizes the date/times of our regular programming, and unfortunately, we are no longer able to share photos of past events on our website to ensure our participant’s anonymity and safety.
Please contact us to enroll in our programs and meet with our staff to complete an intake!
🧩 Our services
🩺 Culturally Competent Healthcare
S.O.S.U. connects Black transgender women to a network of vetted gender affirming healthcare providers in Texas and in the United States who specialize in primary care, specialty care and mental health care without discrimination or bias towards transgender people.
⚖️ Legal Advocacy and Assistance
Save Our Sisters United, Inc stands in the gap for low/no income trans folks who need legal advocacy and access to legal assistance. Through our Peer led services team, we support our folks with referrals for legal support services utilizing a network of trusted legal professionals and advocates providing support in a range of legal issues- from name and gender marker changes, legal representation/advice, and rights-based advocacy.
🏘️ Social Services Navigation
Navigating the bureaucracy of social services is extremely challenging- especially in less progressive regions of the country. There’s nothing like a friendly hand to help navigate these systems in order to get the help you need. Our Peer Navigation Support team supports folks in accessing housing assistance, food programs, emergency housing support, crisis response, and more.
🫂 Peer Led Support Groups
S.O.S.U. was founded to provide safe, social spaces for transgender women in the South. To date, we are proud to provide and curate social spaces that center empowerment of Black transgender people. Our peer-led support groups provide judgement-free safe spaces and provide a space for Black transgender women to share experiences, foster resilience, and provide emotional support and case management for our most impacted folks.
🌱 Empowerment & Self Esteem Events
Throughout the year, S.O.S.U. produces empowerment events, workshops, trainings, and dedicated wellness spaces to expand safe and affirming fellowship, including observances like Transgender Day of Remembrance to memorialize and commemorate the trans lives we have lost due to transphobia and Black Trans Empowerment Week.
🤲 Direct Financial Assistance
When resources are available, Save Our Sisters United, Inc. has/continues to provide mutual aid support and financial assistance for our most impacted folks. Historically, the organization has provided support with Eviction Prevention, emergency housing, emergency medical care, and more. To date, we have provided over $100k annually to support our folks in meeting their basic needs through mutual aid funding, when funding permits us to do so.
❤️ HIV Awareness, Prevention & Linkage To Care
S.O.S.U. continues to provide and create programming, advocacy, training and capacity building on harm reduction, sexual health, and the use of prevention tools such as PrEP. We also support survivors and folks who are not actively enrolled in HIV care to culturally competent providers to begin HIV managed care.
📊 Financial Literacy & Job Training Programs/ Training
S.O.S.U. regularly provides participants access to workshops on financial literacy, resume building, and job readiness.
