S.O.S.U. empowers Black transgender women by providing platforms for their voices and stories to be amplified to work towards narrative change and eradicating stigma and discrimination towards Black transgender people in the Southern United States.
We are actively combating the hostile political climate and growing anti-transgender legislation and rhetoric in Texas through advocacy, education, and community mobilization.
Queens of Houston
QUEENS OF HOUSTON is a grassroots driven, organizing focused coalition formed in April 2024 in response to the tragic murder of Black transgender woman Diamond Brigman.
Anchored by the leadership of Black and brown trans folks dedicated to amplifying trans justice and collective liberation, the coalition serves as a unified response network for the LGBTQIA+ community in Houston, centering the most hyper-marginalized.

Our founding members include Save Our Sisters United, Houston in Action, The Mahogany Project, The Normal Anomaly, Montrose Grace Place, Trust CHW, the Houston LGBTQ+ Political Caucus, the Montrose Center, and HPD’s LGBTQIA+ Liaison.
Grounded in community resilience and safety, QUEENS OF HOUSTON proactively mobilizes around acts of violence, public health crises, natural disasters, and anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.
Our collective mission is to support and empower LGBTQIA+ organizations through equitable, inclusive, and coordinated crisis response strategies. The coalition envisions a robust ecosystem capable of agile response, capacity building, and barrier reduction for LGBTQIA+ Houstonians.

Anticipated outcomes for 2025 include comprehensive base-building efforts such as town halls, “Know Your Rights” seminars, disaster preparedness workshops, cultural organizing events, and targeted advocacy campaigns.
Notable initiatives include the aspiration to create a “trans affirming sanctuary city” legislative campaign, legislative education via civic engagement, and expanding partnerships with media and academia to elevate LGBTQIA+ narratives in the State of Texas. Our advocacy is also dedicated to promoting and leading trauma-informed support for victims’ families and the distribution of safety resources and disaster kits.
In creating a consortium of grassroots organizers, LGBT led nonprofits and direct service organizations, political advocacy groups and local community members, our work in leading the QUEENS OF HOUSTON coalition is building a sustainable, community-led infrastructure prepared to meet the evolving needs of queer and trans Houstonians with dignity, action, and care.
